Chandelle welcomes original contributions, including feature articles, book and product reviews, bibliographies, artwork, and photographs. We tend to look for the lesser-known subjects that are not well-covered elsewhere. But any original treatment of an aviation subject is welcome.
Chandelle is an amateur, nonprofit publication that is free to anyone who chooses to download it. We cannot, therefore, pay for contributions.
You the contributor retain copyright to your work. You merely grant Chandelle permission to use it. You are thus free to republish your contributions as you see fit.
You guarantee that anything you submit (writings, drawings, and/or photographs) is your own, original work, work in the public domain, or copyrighted material used by permission. In the latter case, we will need written permission from the copyright-holder, unless we determine that your use of the material constitutes a fair use (a brief extract used in a review, for instance, or an illustrative quotation in support of a larger point you are trying to make).
If possible, submit text as plain, unformatted ASCII-text or as simple HTML (no frames or fonts). We can convert a number of word-processor formats, but ASCII is safer and easier for all concerned. All word processors offer the option of saving as ASCII. On MS Windows systems, you usually select File | Save as..., and then specify ASCII text in the dialog box.
Try to lay out your text to suit Chandelle style. Examine similar kinds of work (articles, reviews, etc.) that we have published before.
Submit illustrations in compressed electronic bitmap form, if at all possible. Use JPEG format for photographs and GIF for drawings. If you use CorelDraw, you can submit CDR files, and we will convert them for you. Capture images at a resolution that is as close as possible to the finished, online-display size (images generally lose quality when they are resized). Uncompressed formats such as TIFF and BMP are slow to download and subject to damage during transmission, so try to avoid using them.
If you must submit hard-copy text, art, or photographs, please send copies, not originals, particularly if the material is a family heir loom or archival document. While we make every effort to safeguard materials (and have, indeed, never yet lost anything), we cannot be responsible for the loss of hard copy submissions. If you wish your hard copies returned, please include a self-addressed envelope and adequate postage (US stamps or International Reply Coupons).
To save e-mail bandwidth and download time, compress large multi-file projects into a single ZIP archive file, using WinZip, pkZip, or a similar utility (these are available as shareware over the Internet).
E-mail your submission to the Editor.
If you are releasing a new model kit, decal sheet, or book that you would like to see reviewed in Chandelle, please contact the the Editor. Chandelle is published 3 or 4 times per year, so reviews generally appear with the next edition in 3-5 months, depending on when we receive the material. Timeliness is as important to us as it is to you. Unless special arrangements are made in advance, reviewed items become the property of the reviewer.
